had some problems caused by the loaders. She called for 143.5kg for her 3rd
attempt in the Squat to go for a new Asian Masters record. She successfully
lifted it but upon the officials’ inspection, the loaders misloaded it to
143.0kg. The IPF requires a minimum of 1kg to attempt to break a record. Since
the current Asian record was 142.5kg, Merly’s 143.0 kg lift could not be
accepted as a new record. With barely 3 minutes rest, she tried 143.5kg but
failed because she was too tired due to the very short rest given. She still
produced 4 new Philippine Masters records and brought home all 4 gold medals in
the 56 kg Masters class.

Tony Taguibao,
entered in the Masters II 56kg class, scared off his competition who scrambled
to go up another weight class to avoid him. Tony won 4 gold medals with new
Philippine Masters II records in all events.
